there are certain points in my life that i can remember distinctly because they are bookmarked by certain songs, certain albums, certain musicians, certain sounds. makeba’s voice came at a time when i was
looking for something much much more. i still remember that day i bought my first two makeba albums– both on vinyl. i had no idea what i was getting into. no reviews, no recommendations, no nothing– just something told me i should listen. it’s haunting, it’s happy, it’s warm, it’s nurturing.
mama afrika, you have blessed my soul. thank you for the lullabies, the pata patas and africa.
and thanks mr. duncan man for such great footage.
